Music

Selection to enjoy: Wind Quintet, Op. 56, No. 1, by Franz Danzi (1763-1826), performed by the Monet Bläserquintett. This cheery, delightful piece features the high frequencies of the wind instruments, helping you to think more creatively and with greater attention.
Suggested use: Have you been trying to solve a problem? Dedicate time to listen to this piece at a low volume, and consider options to your problem that you haven’t already. Ask yourself the question Pat Flynn asks himself, “If this were easy, what would it look like?” (from his newest book, Lean Learning).

Mindset to strengthen: A Prepared Environment
In Action-Taking Edition # 8, I spoke of our need for order in both our physical space and in daily routines.
In this edition, we’ll work on creating more order in our physical spaces. How can we arrange our physical space to make them more conducive to better thinking and functioning?
Suggestions to try:
At home: Devise your incoming mail system to work for you. Designate a holding place, and inform your family, so that everyone knows where the mail is to be deposited. Let your mail live there until it’s time to take care of it. (No one likes to pay bills; adding insult to injury in the form of a late fee because you couldn’t find the bill to pay is like rubbing lemon juice into your paper cut . . .)
At school: Add pictures to your locker that inspire you: the logo of your soon-to-be college, snapshots of family, friends, your pet.
At work: Have fun organizing your desk, getting rid of excess clutter and adding to it small things that make you smile: a picture of loved ones, a souvenir from a vacation of happy memories, your hole-in-one golf ball.
